I am a cancer health services researcher with long-term interests in cancer care delivery, survivorship, and patient-reported outcomes. My work implements rigorous quantitative and qualitative methods to identify, understand, and address healthcare delivery challenges for patients with cancer. For example, my recently completed NCI-funded K01 award (1K01CA251645) developed and evaluated a stakeholder-engaged intervention to support diabetes management for underserved patients with breast cancer undergoing active treatment. This 5-year grant involved in-depth interviews and focus groups with patients and providers to inform a multi-site intervention that is recruited 80 patients with breast cancer at NYP-Weill Cornell Medicine, Brooklyn and Queens.
To complement my intervention work, I lead a NCI-funded R37 (1R37CA288492) to determine drivers of long-term cardiovascular outcomes among cancer survivors in the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) cohort study. This 7-year award leverages cancer registry data linked to a large epidemiologic cohort to study the influences of upstream structural factors on downstream intermediaries including individual behaviors (e.g., smoking, diet, physical activity), psychosocial well-being (e.g., anxiety, depression), and health service utilization patterns.
