College Programs
ACCESS

The ACCESS Summer Internship Program allows students to spend 9 weeks conducting research in a laboratory under the mentorship of an experienced scientist. Throughout the summer, students will attend lectures and discussions aimed at enhancing their understanding of the status of biomedical research, the pathways available for entering research careers, and the range of available career opportunities. Weekly journal clubs to give you skills to dissect a scientific article and present scientific research. Professional development workshops will help students develop the soft skills you’ll need to advance your career.  Social activities will allow students to connect with a cohort of like-minded peers as you begin to develop your scientific network. To learn more about the program and application process, visit the ACCESS Page.

BMRI Summer Scholars Program

The BMRI Summer Scholars Program is a new opportunity for promising young scientists residing in the New York City area and provides awardees with a 9-week long paid internship at a world-renowned research facility with leaders in neurodegeneration research. Individuals will receive one-on-one training with a researcher in one of the BMRI/Neuroscience Graduate Program laboratories, develop a research idea and plan, learn scientific methods, and produce their own data. They will also be included in workshops and seminars sponsored by Office of Access, Belonging and Student Success. At the end of the internship, BMRI scholars will present their findings in a research seminar. To learn more about the program and application process, visit the BMRI Site

Each summer, 15 students spend nine weeks on our tri-institutional campus learning about the rewards and challenges of the physician-scientist pathway. To learn more about the program and application process, visit the Gateways webpage.

The Weill Cornell Medicine Summer Research Fellowship Program is designed to provide 25-27 premedical students with experiential research training, meaningful insights into the field of medicine, and enhanced knowledge of the conditions and policies impacting the health of traditionally underserved populations. By engaging in laboratory or clinical research, under the supervision of a faculty member, the WCMSRF participants learn how to investigate a specific research question. To learn more about the program and the application process, visit the WCMSRF webpage.

High School Programs
The High School Catalyst Program

The High School Catalyst Program is a partnership between the Weill Cornell Graduate School and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Postdoctoral Association. The High School Catalyst Program is designed to offer hands-on biomedical research experience to New York high school students. HPREP is a ten-week program held on Friday afternoons beginning in January. High school students will hear physicians and other health professionals speak on their path and work in small groups with medical students to write a personal statement, and resume, and draft a research paper. In addition, students will participate in practical workshops discussing the college application process. All students in the 10th and 11th grade are welcomed to apply. To learn more about the program and the application process, click here

The Sandra and Edward Meyer Cancer Center is offering summer internship opportunities to high school and undergraduate students interested in exploring exciting cancer research questions. Students will immerse themselves in the fundamental principles of scientific investigation, get hands-on experience in laboratory techniques, or perform dry-lab research under the mentorship of our basic science and clinical research faculty. Our goal is to educate and inspire students at an early-stage to pursue future careers in cancer research. The program will provide a mentored experience rich in activities to participating students and create a network to support their future academic endeavors. At the end of the program, we will have a retreat where each student will have the opportunity to present the results of their research. Community Outreach
Tri-Institutional Outreach Committee (TORC)

Tri-Institutional Outreach Committee (TOrC) focuses on STEM outreach initiatives for K-12 through undergraduate students.

TOrC aims to make science more accessible by spreading awareness about careers in science, inspiring others to follow their passion in STEM, and providing them with resources to help them excel. In parallel, we strive to bridge Weill Cornell Medicine, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and The Rockefeller University by connecting members of the Tri-I with a common passion for outreach and mentorship.

  • Tri-Institutional Mentorship Initiative (TIMI)

In 2020, TOrC student leaders founded the Tri-I Mentorship Initiative (TIMI) to empower those interested in applying to graduate programs through one-on-one mentoring. Current Tri-I graduate students are paired with undergraduates or recent graduates who are applying to biomedical PhD programs. Mentors receive training and dispatch their own experiences with the application process to help mentees select schools to apply to, craft their personal statements, and improve their interviewing skills.

  • Tri-Institutional Outreach Fair

To increase the visibility of STEM outreach opportunities in NYC, TOrC launched the Tri-Institutional Outreach Fair in February 2022. Nearly 70 members of the Tri-I community came together virtually to hear presentations from 12 professional and trainee-run outreach organizations, including BioBus, the New York Academy of Sciences STEM Mentoring Programs, RockEDU, the Tri-Institutional Minority Society Summer Scholars Research Program (SSRP), Weill Cornell Graduate School Advancing Cornell Career Experiences for Science Students (ACCESS), and more. Attendees were also able to connect directly with outreach representatives in breakout sessions. A survey revealed that 90% of participants learned about at least one new outreach group and 50% signed up for a new volunteer opportunity. The Outreach Fair is now an annual event held each spring.

TIMS

TIMS brings together students, administrators, researchers and faculty members from the Rockefeller University, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City to make scientific opportunities available to all members of our scientific tri-institutional community. Our activities include organizing educational outreach, professional development, and networking programs. We also provide social opportunities to foster community across all three campuses.
