    Overview

The Master of Science in Biostatistics and Data Science is a 16-month, 36 credit program that prepares students for data science careers in health-related fields and beyond. Our program has the rigor of a traditional Biostatistics program but is unusual in that it focuses on data mining and machine learning techniques.

The program offers rigorous hands-on training in both foundational and advanced statistical methods and data science techniques that are essential for data-based learning, discovery, and decision making. In our program you will learn to:

    • Apply sound statistical principles to the study design, data collection, data analysis.
    • Manipulate, visualize, and analyze biomedical data of wide-ranging types, structures, complexities, and scales
    • Utilize statistical and machine learning techniques to discover patterns and relationships in data.
    • Properly interpret data analysis results and effectively communicate findings and insights.
    • Develop proficiency in statistical programming and scientific computing skills in R, Python, SAS, etc. for building computational tools.
    • Build real-world experience through a faculty-mentored research project and/or an industry-sponsored internship.
    • Apply your analytic skills to questions in health services, cost-effectiveness, and comparative-effectiveness research.

Our students create close professional relationships with a diverse faculty through low student-to-faculty class ratios and take advantage of NYC’s proximity to leading educational institutions and some of the largest pharmaceutical hubs in the country. Graduates of our program are prepared for data-driven careers in academia, research, government, consulting, health technology, insurance, and pharmaceutical companies, as well as to pursue further doctoral training.
